What is Untether Life?
Untether Life is a Christian nonprofit based in Virginia Beach that creates opportunities for people to put their faith into action through local outreach, regional service projects, and international mission experiences. We believe meaningful ministry begins by faithfully loving the people God places in front of us, whether that is in your own neighborhood or across the world.
What makes Untether Life different from other mission organizations?

We partner with trusted local leaders, return to the same communities year after year, and believe sustainable ministry happens through consistency, discipleship, and authentic community rather than simply completing a service project.
Who is Ginny Paynter?
Ginny Paynter is the founder and president of Untether Life and the author of Hey Somebody!. For more than twenty years, she has led local outreach initiatives, international mission experiences, and discipleship opportunities that help people put their faith into action. Whether speaking, writing, or serving alongside volunteers, Ginny's passion is helping ordinary people discover that they don't have to be pastors, missionaries, or ministry leaders to make a meaningful difference. She believes that small acts of compassion, offered consistently over time, can have an extraordinary Kingdom impact.

What kinds of local outreach does Untether Life do?
At Untether Life, we believe that faith is meant to be lived out through loving and serving others. Inspired by James 1:27, which calls us to care for widows and orphans in their distress, we create opportunities to meet practical needs while building genuine relationships within our community.
Our local outreach includes quarterly senior events at local care facilities, community outreach gatherings, prayer ministry, neighborhood service projects, and seasonal outreach opportunities throughout Hampton Roads. We also host community events that bring people together, creating natural opportunities to encourage others, offer prayer, and demonstrate the love of Christ in everyday settings.
Whether we're playing bingo with seniors, serving at a community festival, or simply walking alongside someone who needs encouragement, our goal is to help people discover that meaningful outreach often begins with ordinary acts of compassion.
We believe outreach is more than an event—it's a lifestyle. Our goal is to equip and encourage everyday people to become the hands and feet of Jesus by serving their own communities with compassion, consistency, and genuine relationships.
What is Hey Somebody! about?
Hey Somebody! is a Christian book that encourages believers to see outreach as part of everyday discipleship. Through personal stories, biblical reflection, and practical application, readers discover that loving neighbors, serving their communities, and noticing holy interruptions are often where God does His greatest work.
The book is designed for individuals, churches, Bible studies, outreach teams, and small groups.
